to break a habit : to stop doing something.
hooked (addicted) : you can't stop doing something.
-> She is hooked on smoking. She can't give up.

-> Kai doesn't smoke.

My doctor told me that I had to quit.
- had to(past), have to(present) : necessity ( Something is necessary )
-> I have to wear glasses.
-> When I was child, I had to wear glasses.

I thought I should break the habit.
- should : Something is a good idea

We have to buy a parking ticket here.

Smoking is really bad for you.
You should quit.
